A one-time injection would be so much simpler than surgical sterilization: non-invasive, painless, easier for both animals and the people who care for them.<\/p>\n<p>The vast majority of owned pets in the United States are already spayed or neutered, but the\u00a0majority of\u00a0strays and\u00a0animals taken in by\u00a0rescues or shelters are not (think: feral cats) &#8212; and they need\u00a0to be sterilized before being released (<a title=\"Trap-Neuter-Return\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trap-neuter-return\" target=\"_blank\">TNR<\/a>) or adopted out. It is easy to do the math and see how this could make life\u00a0easier for everybody.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, if sterilization becomes as easy as administering a shot, it is just as easy to do the math and see how this could be a bad thing in the hands of an overzealous or immoral person.<\/p>\n<p>As always, exciting news that should be tempered with an ounce of caution.
