{"id":553,"date":"2014-06-27T20:11:06","date_gmt":"2014-06-27T20:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/?p=553"},"modified":"2014-06-27T20:11:36","modified_gmt":"2014-06-27T20:11:36","slug":"it-was-never-about-the-quality-of-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/animal-rights\/it-was-never-about-the-quality-of-care\/","title":{"rendered":"It Was Never About the Quality of Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A recent story about a natural foods market&#8217;s <a title=\"Local Grocer in food fight with animal rights activists\" href=\"http:\/\/www.conwaydailysun.com\/newsx\/local-news\/113878-local-grocer-in-food-fight-with-animal-rights-activists\" target=\"_blank\">run in with a local activist<\/a>\u00a0neatly illustrates the point that when it comes to the animal rights mentality: that it&#8217;s never <em>really<\/em> about the level of care, but <a title=\"What is Animal Welfare and why is it important?\" href=\"http:\/\/www.naiaonline.org\/articles\/article\/what-is-animal-welfare-and-why-is-it-important\" target=\"_blank\">ending animal use by humans altogether<\/a>\u00a0(and yes, <a title=\"Animal Rights Uncompromised: \u2018Pets\u2019\" href=\"http:\/\/www.peta.org\/about-peta\/why-peta\/pets\/\" target=\"_blank\">this includes owning pets<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Of course\u00a0many people don&#8217;t realize this,\u00a0so when Local Grocer owner\u00a0<span style=\"color: #444444;\">Heather Chase put together a class on how to ethically raise and process chickens (naturally, including information on how to slaughter them), and became\u00a0the target of an animal rights campaign, it probably seemed odd to some onlookers. After all, aren&#8217;t the animal rights folks always campaigning against people who <em>don&#8217;t<\/em> ethically raise animals? Why on Earth target a &#8220;sustainable,&#8221; \u00a0&#8220;beyond organic&#8221; operation? Well, for the answer to that, simply refer back to paragraph one: because it&#8217;s <em>not about the level of care<\/em>; in there eyes there is no such thing as &#8220;ethical meat.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #444444;\">Since becoming a target, animal rights activists have harassed the Local Grocer owner, given her store negative online ratings, and their ringleader has received a no-trespass order.
