More accurately, a ban on the sale and manufacturing of\u00a0<em>new<\/em>\u00a0fur products. This kind of thing has become par for the course in California, so it shouldn&#8217;t be a surprise \u2013 though it\u00a0<em>should<\/em>\u00a0be troubling to you, regardless of whether or not you choose to wear real fur. The hubris of a congresswoman from sunny Glendale, California announcing to the rest of the world that fur is over \u2013 and further, that it has no place in a \u201csustainable future\u201d (how many hundreds of years will it take for that faux fur coat to biodegrade, again?) would almost be laughable if there were no real-world consequences or precedents from her bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/FurCoatFaux-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/FurCoatFaux-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/FurCoatFaux-1.jpg 450w, https:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/FurCoatFaux-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><figcaption><em>Which is fur? Come back in 500 years to find out!<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike animal issues related to things like food production or pets that virtually everybody has a stake in, fur can be exploited by its opponents by tying it to displays of ostentatious wealth and its lack of functionality in many climates of the world (see: Glendale, California). Combining divide-and-conquer tactics with a side of pragmatic-sounding \u201cand do we really even&nbsp;<em>need<\/em>&nbsp;this?\u201d can be really effective. This means that as far as cause-marketed issues go, fur is fairly low-hanging fruit.
