STATE STAND\" href=\"http:\/\/indianalawblog.com\/archives\/2012\/05\/ind_decisions_s_773.html\">the state (with the assistance of HSUS) overreached in seizing and placing 240 dogs over unpaid taxes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For some <a title=\"Indiana Supreme Court reviews process used to close puppy mill\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nwitimes.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/indiana\/indiana-supreme-court-reviews-process-used-to-close-puppy-mill\/article_999ae08d-8ee1-5f91-8a56-7b5f6769ac3a.html\">background<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11px; text-align: center;\">On June 2, 2009,\u00a0Virginia and Kristin Garwood each were ordered to pay $142,367.94 in allegedly unpaid taxes from the sale\u00a0of puppies at their Mauckport, Ind., farm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 11px; text-align: center;\">When the Garwoods were unable to pay, Indiana State Police and Humane Society volunteers seized 240 dogs from the farm, including the Garwoods&#8217; pets.
