{"id":1544,"date":"2017-01-14T21:02:00","date_gmt":"2017-01-14T21:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/?p=1544"},"modified":"2017-01-14T21:04:45","modified_gmt":"2017-01-14T21:04:45","slug":"avma-hod-passes-resolution-that-supports-responsible-breeders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/veterinary-issues\/avma-hod-passes-resolution-that-supports-responsible-breeders\/","title":{"rendered":"AVMA HOD Passes Resolution That Supports Responsible Breeders!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Great news: the American Veterinary Medical Association House of Delegates\u00a0(AVMA HOD) has passed a resolution amendment that supports responsible breeders!<\/p>\n<p>Amendment 2:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; padding-left: 20px; paddng-right: 20x; font-size: 11.5px;\"><em>\u201cTo maximize the health and welfare of companion animals, the AVMA supports research in genetic and inherited disorders to better educate the profession and breeders on identifying and minimizing inherited disorders in companion animal breeding programs. To assist with this, the AVMA encourages veterinarians to pursue continuing education in the emerging area of genetic disease in companion animals. The AVMA also encourages veterinarians to educate breeders, companion animal owners, and the public on the responsibilities involved with breeding and selecting companion animals.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This resolution amendment replaces an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naiaonline.org\/articles\/article\/avma-hod-recall-and-redraft-breeder-proposal\" target=\"_blank\">earlier breeder proposal<\/a> that, while no doubt well-intentioned, was problematic due to its imprecise language and potential for unintended consequences.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1548 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/VetAndDogBlog-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"VetAndDogBlog\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/VetAndDogBlog-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/VetAndDogBlog.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Education, cooperation, and trust between animal experts will lead to happier, healthier animals, and this resolution amendment expresses that ideal admirably.
