{"id":1277,"date":"2015-08-26T23:27:25","date_gmt":"2015-08-26T23:27:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/?p=1277"},"modified":"2015-08-26T23:27:25","modified_gmt":"2015-08-26T23:27:25","slug":"animal-activists-put-a-halt-to-avmfs-americas-favorite-veterinarian-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/animal-rights\/animal-activists-put-a-halt-to-avmfs-americas-favorite-veterinarian-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Animal Activists Put a Halt to AVMF&#8217;s &#8220;America&#8217;s Favorite Veterinarian Contest&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avma.org\/News\/PressRoom\/Pages\/Americas-Favorite-Veterinarian-Contest-halted-due-to-cyber-bullying-finalists-to-be-honored-collectively.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">disturbing press release from the\u00a0American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)<\/a> says\u00a0that cyber-bullying from animal activists has caused the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) to\u00a0halt its &#8220;America&#8217;s Favorite Veterinarian Contest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 11.5px; padding-left: 25px; padding-right: 25px;\"><em>Activists opposed to cat declawing &#8220;hijacked&#8221; the contest, resorting to cyber-bullying the majority of the contest finalists, those who believe that declawing cats remains a last-resort, but viable, alternative to separating pets from their owners when the animal&#8217;s behavior cannot be controlled any other way. One contestant, for example, was called &#8220;a whore, a butcher, a mutilator, a hack, an animal hater, a disgrace to the profession.&#8221; Other contestants were subjected to the circulation of fraudulent negative advertisements, negative reviews, and threatening phone calls.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Reading their press release, two thing come to mind immediately:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the behavior from the activists wasn&#8217;t so shameful, it would be absurdly humorous. These contest finalists are veterinarians &#8212; people who have devoted their lives to\u00a0<em>saving<\/em>\u00a0animals! And these veterinarians who are being treated like &#8220;animal hating&#8221; monsters are among the best out there! Sheesh.<\/li>\n<li>Veterinarians have been able to placate the animal activists longer than most professionals who work with animals, but it\u00a0couldn&#8217;t last forever.
