{"id":1133,"date":"2015-04-21T21:48:32","date_gmt":"2015-04-21T21:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/?p=1133"},"modified":"2015-04-21T22:03:01","modified_gmt":"2015-04-21T22:03:01","slug":"uber-accused-of-refusing-to-transport-service-animals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/naiaonline.org\/blog\/animal-law\/uber-accused-of-refusing-to-transport-service-animals\/","title":{"rendered":"Uber accused of refusing to transport service animals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A federal judge told the ridesharing company Uber that\u00a0it <a title=\"Uber must face lawsuit claiming bias against blind riders\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/04\/20\/us-uber-blind-lawsuit-idUSKBN0NB1W020150420\" target=\"_blank\">must defend against a discrimination lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0after\u00a0its drivers were accused of refusing to transport service animals.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the accusations <a title=\"Uber Must Respond To Lawsuit Alleging Discrimination Against Blind Riders: Federal Judge\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ibtimes.com\/uber-must-respond-lawsuit-alleging-discrimination-against-blind-riders-federal-judge-1889605\" target=\"_blank\">paint an extremely troubling picture<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 11.5px; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px;\"><em> In one instance, the lawsuit states, two blind passengers with service animals were met with cursing and shouts of \u201cno dogs\u201d from an Uber driver who refused to admit them. Another time, a driver allegedly stashed a blind woman\u2019s dog in the trunk then ignored her pleas to pull over once she\u2019d realized what had happened.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Talk about callous disregard&#8230; \u00a0if allegations are proven true, it will take a long time to remove those stains from the company.<\/p>\n<p>Uber has 14 days to respond.
